After almost two weeks without electricity, power to the Gilbert Post Office has been restored.
U.S. Postal Service spokesman Paul F. Smith confirmed Wednesday morning that the power was back.
In recent days, the 622 Gilbert Rd. office had no electricity. Without power to its digital scale, employees could not weigh packages for mailing. A credit card reader was also down, forcing clerks to only accept cash for transactions. A wedge was placed in the door to keep it open.
The lack of power also meant poor visibility inside the office on dark days.
Smith said on Tuesday that while the office was dealing with an electricity outage, there were no plans to close the office.
State Rep. Jack Rader’s office learned of the problem Friday afternoon and reached out Congressman Rob Bresnahan’s office about the federal issue.
