East Penn OKs backhoe purchase, denies extension
The East Penn Township supervisors approved the purchase of a four-way John Deere backhoe for $118,505.79 and rejected a one-year extension request last week.
Roadmaster Brandon Bradford had reported to the supervisors in April that he was gathering quotes for a replacement backhoe for the township.
In other business, Bradford reported completion of milling and repair on Blue Mountain, Sand Quarry, Sports Club, Christman and Gilberts Hill roads.
Shoulder mowing, storm cleanup, pipe and drain maintenance and equipment repairs were also conducted, he said.
It was also noted that Bradford attended the annual Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ convention.
The supervisors rejected a one-year extension for the Duane Schleicher subdivision for a mobile home court at 232 Lochner Road. .
The extension had been requested to address all outstanding issues identified by Hanover Engineering, including showing that PPL granted an easement.
The escrow fund will need to be re-established.
The next management conference will take place on Aug. 12, 2025, if no agreement is met.
A second parcel Schleicher owns is located at 1716 West Lizard Creek Road.
The board approved:
• A subdivision and land development ordinance waiver for a subdivision application recommended by the township engineer.
• Suburban Fuel’s proposal for propane at $2.65 per gallon and gas at an additional 20 cents.
• Meeting minutes from May 5, the May treasurer’s report and payment of May invoices.
Also at meeting, Carbon County Open Space Coordinator Anna Shigo informed the board and residents that grant funding is available for open space preservation. A public workshop is planned for July.
Supervisor William Schwab was absent from the meeting.
