Lehigh Twp. reviews budget requests for police, buildings
The Lehigh Township budget for 2025 was discussed at the last meeting of the board of supervisors.
The budget includes money for backup generators that are needed for the new maintenance building, police station, and township building.
The Public Works Department is hoping for a new pickup truck at a cost of about $85,000.
Police Chief Scott Fogel gave a list of things needed for the police department.
Fogel said the Tasers are expired. They are seven years old. All lockout tools are worn out. Trauma kits in the vehicles are expired. The station needs more lockers for the officers.
Fogel also said three in-car cameras are needed for $11,300 from the township. He is waiting on a grant for the other half from Northampton County. With the updated cameras, in-car and body cameras can send information right to the District Attorney. He is checking on prices for AEDs, and there is also mandatory training for all officers. It is done in-house, because it is cheaper.
The board discussed the tennis courts at Bryfogle Park. The courts need to be regraded and drainage needs to be put in because of water.
In other business, the board approved the following:
• An extension of time requested in engineer’s letter on Sept. 9, for the Blue Mountain Subdivision Lot 2 Land Development Plan. Extended to Dec. 17.
• Extension of time for recording of the approved Sedler Design and Redevelopment LLC, Shanghai M & U International Trade Co. to Nov. 30.
• The final payment to Bracy Construction, Request #14 for the new public works building.
• Ordinance 2024-3, Amending the Zoning Ordinance pertaining to off street parking requirements for Medical Marijuana Facilities. The ordinance will be sent to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission for approval.
• State Rep. Zach Mako gave an American flag from his office for the new public works building.
• A walk-through open house of the new maintenance building for the public from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 12.
