• Tamaqua police charged Matthew Kern, 32, of Tamaqua, with simple assault and harassment after they said he punched a woman in the face around 3:10 a.m. Sept. 23.
Police said they were sent to a home on Lafayette Street for a report of a domestic dispute. Upon entering, they saw a woman with a swollen and bleeding mouth sitting on the couch.
Police said a man, identified as Kern, started screaming and yelling at them from upstairs. The officer spoke to Kern, who said he was trying to get to bed because he had work in the morning, but the woman kept arguing with him and touching his belongings. He told police that she punched him, so he punched her back. Police said he had no visible bruises.
The woman told police that she was sleeping when Kern kept yelling and cursing, and turning lights off and on. She said she knocked over a clothing rack, and Kern punched her in the face.
Police said Kern demanded that the woman be arrested and continued calling the officer names. He was taken to the police station, where charges were filed.
• Matthew Montanari, 44, of Coaldale, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance after his vehicle crashed into a parked car around 6:05 p.m. Aug. 19, Tamaqua police said.
According to police, officers were sent to the 600 block of East Broad Street for a report of a parked car that was struck and pushed onto the sidewalk.
Police said the vehicle suffered disabling damage and had to be towed.
Officers spoke to Montanari, who said that he was tired and traveling west on East Broad Street when he hit the car. Police said he appeared lethargic, had an unsteady gait, and dropped his wallet.
Montanari agreed to take several field sobriety tests, which police said he had trouble performing.
He was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Montanari agreed to have his blood drawn. Results show that he had Xanax — a controlled substance — and other drugs in his system, police said. He tested negative for alcohol.
Police also charged him with driving with an expired vehicle registration, careless driving and other violations.
• Tamaqua police charged seven teenagers with disorderly conduct following a disturbance at 6:05 p.m. Sept. 4 on the 300 block of Willing Street.
According to police, the group of juveniles wanted to fight a single juvenile who lived in the area. The parent and guardian of the teen told the group to leave, since the person was not home.
Police said the group became disorderly and began calling the adults names and making derogatory sexual remarks about the woman.
Police said four 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy were cited for disorderly conduct. A 13-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were charged with providing false information to law enforcement and disorderly conduct. Charges were filed with the Schuylkill County Juvenile Justice office.
Police said some of the teens had been identified earlier on Sept. 3 for throwing rocks at the front window of the victims’ house.
