Carbon looking for contractors for home list
Carbon County is hoping to build a list of contractors interested in taking part of the county’s home repair programs.
On Thursday, the board of commissioners approved advertising for proposals from interested contractors to participate in the Home Rehabilitation Program and Whole Home Repair Program.
Commissioner Rocky Ahner said these programs haven’t been utilized for the last couple of years in the county, but the money is there so the county is working to get it back up and running.
“One of the things is we actually streamlined the application for the contractors,” Ahner said, pointing out that the original application was several pages, while the new application is a single page.
“We’re always looking for the trades and we don’t have anyone on record,” he said. “We want to give our local contractors some work.”

The Home Rehabilitation Program allows qualified homeowners up to $23,000 for work on their property, with any remaining balance being the homeowner’s responsibility. This program is based on need, with over 200 applications currently on file.
The Whole Home Repair Program provides eligible homeowners with up to $50,000, which must go through the bidding process.
“Our main objectives are to allocate funds to qualified homeowners that need help financially and to give local contractors an easier path for a pieces of the pie,” Ahner said. “It’s time to get that out there.”
Last year, the county received $1.053 million from the COVID-19 ARPA Whole Home Repair Program, which is overseen by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
