Weissport plans Crisp Air Festival in October

The Weissport Event Committee is holding a new festival. Plans were announced at the Weissport Borough Council meeting Monday night.

The Weissport Crisp Air Festival will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Oct. 4, noon to 10 p.m. Oct. 5 and noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 6.

Live entertainment will be Sweet Revenge, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.; Dead Whiskey Stamps, Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m.; Abandoned Mind, Saturday, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Tom Acker, Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

There will also be food trucks, games, rides, crafts, a basket raffle, fun for all ages.

All proceeds benefit the Weissport Event Committee.

Road projects

The borough is moving forward with road projects within the borough.

Plans are to do a 10% base repair on the all four blocks of White Street, which is the street most in need of repair; and tar and chip all of Franklin Street, to keep it from falling into disrepair.

Mike Muffley of Hanover Engineering, the borough engineer, will meet with the road and flood members to come up with the exact specifications of the project and the costs, and then put the project out for bid.

The borough has approximately $129,000 in Liquid Fuels money to use to pay for the projects. The funds have been accumulating because Council has not used the money in nearly 10 years. The money needs to be used or the borough risks losing future receipts. Liquid Fuels money must be used only for roadwork.

Police report

Weissport Police Chief Matthew Williams presented his monthly report.

For the month of August, there were 14 calls, which included three non-traffic calls, two possession of drug paraphernalia calls, one curfew, and one quality of life call.

Three traffic citations were issued: driving while suspended, drivers required to be licensed, and expired registration.

Council approved, at Williams’ request, the purchase of a new evidence locker not to exceed $200, which will come out of the police department’s budget.

Other business

UGI is doing work on Forge Street in Weissport, moving gas lines to prepare for the drainage repair work to be done near the base of the McCall Bridge. The borough’s portion of the work is expected to begin in approximately one month.

Council approved the purchase of lumber and paint not to exceed $300 to build boxes to cover the electrical outlets in the borough park, and to paint the older wooden benches in the park.

Council also approved the hiring of Nick Trubilla for the Public Works Department at a rate of $12 per hour.
