Lansford man said he traded drugs for gun
A Lansford man charged with narcotics trafficking in Lansford Friday told investigators he had been selling drugs all his life and accepted a handgun for methamphetamine.
Jason Mika, 44, of East Abbott Street, was taken into custody following a seven-month investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs by the Carbon County Drug Task Force and the state Office of Attorney General.
A search warrant was executed at 6:01 a.m. Friday at Mika’s home in the 200-block of East Abbott Street, and police seized 480.3 grams, or 1.08 pounds, of methamphetamine, 69.6 grams (2.46 ounces) of psilocybin mushrooms, 14.5 grams (0.51 ounces) of marijuana, 36 tables of clonazepam, 77 Suboxone strips and a Smith and Wesson M28-2 .357 magnum revolver.
Mika told investigators that he sold between a few ounces and a pound of methamphetamine every month, court papers said, and that the handgun was the result of a trade for methamphetamine.
A records check showed the Mika pleaded guilty in November 2008 to felony conspiracy to deliver crack/cocaine and served 57 months in federal prison, making him ineligible to possess a firearm, court papers said.
He faces charges of possession a firearm prohibited and five felony counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. He remains in the Carbon County prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Nesquehoning Police were assisted by the state Attorney General’s office, Lansford, Lehighton and Franklin Twp. police, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Carbon County District Attorney’s Office, Carbon County Animal Shelter and Lehighton Ambulance.
