Food trucks still on track for plot in Mahoning

Food trucks remain on the radar for a small tract of land in Mahoning Township.

The process is just taking longer for the owner of the 1.1-acre plot located between Tractor Supply Co. and Times News Media Group along Blakeslee Blvd Drive West.

Brad Christman, who owns the plot, said on Wednesday they are currently waiting on PPL Electric Utilities for the installation of the electric service.

“We just had them out their to strike a position for the pole that will be on the backside of the parking area,” Christman said. “We’re being told probably another six to eight weeks as soon as I get the approval letter signed off.”

Christman said they previously received their driveway permit from PennDOT.

“One step at a time,” he said. “It’s a long process.”

As a result, Christman was hesitant to put a time frame on an exact date for when the destination opens.

Interest remains high, though, as far as the potential food trucks are concerned, according to Christman.

“I spoke to several; probably 10 have shown interest, another five or so who inquired,” he said. “The area is very up and coming; the (Route) 443 corridor is pretty robust.

“When I did my traffic count, there were about 9,000 cars a day. I think we’re in a good spot, a good position.”

Christman previously said the design is for five food trucks with 25 parking spaces. The grass areas will stay intact, as they are to allow for several picnic tables, he said.

A building/developer, Christman did add that the food trucks will offer “a variety” of foods, such as Mexican and barbecue, and that he’s spoken with “the slider people, lobster folks.”

Christman, who lives in the Mahoning Valley, also owns the Ateira’s on First building on First Street in Lehighton,
