West Penn Township supervisors promoted two members of the township’s police force during Monday’s board meeting.
Police Chief James Bonner requested promotions for Cpl. John Kaczmarczyk and Patrolman Jason Lorah.
Kaczmarczyk, a 17-year member of the force, was promoted to sergeant and Lorah now holds the rank of corporal.
Bonner said Lorah had worked for the department for years and had retired with the rank of sergeant. He recently returned as a patrolman, Bonner said, and had been covering a multitude of shifts.
In keeping with police news, supervisors accepted the department’s activities report for March.
During the month, officers patrolled 6,455 miles, and issued 163 traffic citations and 25 warnings. The department had 125 calls and responded to six traffic accidents.
Police responded to thefts, dog calls, civil complaints and domestic incidents, board Chairman Tony Prudenti noted as he looked at the breakdown.
Supervisor Jim Akins noted that the department’s name has been added to all police vehicles.
He also said that the township has heard concerns about police vehicles parking alongside the road.
Akins said officers get more accurate readings on license plates, registrations and speed when their cruisers are parked.
“There is a lesser margin of error with a stationary vehicle,” he said.
