Gov’t officials discuss Penn Forest trail

Carbon County Council of Governments met in February at the Carbon County 44 Susquehanna Building

Chris Bartulovich, Penn Forest Township, chaired the meeting in absence of the President Kara Scott of Bowmanstown and Vice President Kris Hoffner of Palmerton.

Talon Fogal spoke about the development of the Penn Forest Township Recreation Trail.

The Penn Forest Township Recreation Trail is destined to be a trail comprising approximately 18 to 19 miles having connections from Penn Forest Park toward the south Bear Creek Lakes, Public Forest, Penn’s Peak and Jim Thorpe (D&L Trail) and concluding at the Kidder Township Trail.

Bartulovich added to Fogal’s presentation by saying that Penn Forest has the largest township population in Carbon County, which becomes larger with the recreation rentals which crowd the facilities at Jim Thorpe and Beltzville. He believes that Penn Forest can do a service to the county and Jim Thorpe by alleviating the overcrowding of the roads by giving these summer rentals who are generally from New York the opportunity to stay in Penn Forest Township through the use of these recreational facilities

In the Community Forum, county Commissioner Wayne Nothstein spoke about Carbon County’s invitation for all elected municipal officials and other governmental officials to visit, view and experience what occurs at Carbon County’s emergency operations and training center June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon at 88 Public Safety Lane Nesquehoning.
