PPL works to restore electricity

More than 5,000 PPL customers remain without power as of 9 a.m. Tuesday after high winds swept through the region Monday.

PPL said more than 26,000 customers were affected Monday afternoon.

Jane George, regional affairs director, PPL, said that crews have been working to restore power to those who have been affected.

“We have restored power for approximately 52,000 customers in our service territory since Sunday afternoon when the strong winds began,” George said. “For the central region, all customers without outages due to yesterday’s (Monday’s) wind are expected to have their power restored by 3 p.m.”

More than 2,100 of the customers without electricity were in Monroe County Tuesday morning. Of those, 296 Chestnuthill residents are out and 196 are out in Polk Township.

In Carbon County 542 are without power, with the biggest outage in the Stagecoach Road area of Towamensing Township, with 459 customers out.

A handful of customers in Rush and West Penn townships of Schuylkill County remained without power Tuesday morning.
