Man charged with multiple retail thefts
A New Jersey man has been charged with stealing items from a Fine Wine and Good Spirits and ShopRite in Brodheadsville two days apart from each other.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Christopher Gaetano of the Pennsylvania State Police - Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Michael Villamizar:
At 1:15 p.m. March 1, Fine Wine and Good Spirits contacted police about a man stealing multiple liquor items from the shelves and not paying.
A Fine Wine and Good Spirits employee reviewed surveillance cameras when a man was seen stealing a Glenifnet 12-year pint worth $28, and a Johnnie Walker Black 750 ml worth $44, for a total of $72.
The store employee said the man was seen getting into a 2023 black Dodge Ram.
Gaetano made contact with ShopRite employees in reference to similar retail theft cases involving the man.
ShopRite stated they have had multiple retail thefts involving the man on Feb. 3 and Feb. 14 stealing multiple items and involved in the same vehicle.
At around 2:30 p.m. March 3, ShopRite contacted PSP Fern Ridge stating the same man from their prior retail thefts and the Fine Wine and Good Spirits retail theft arrived at ShopRite in the black 2023 Dodge Ram.
The man, Villamizar, 53, of Garfield, matched the same description. He admitted to taking liquor from the Fine Wine and Good Spirits and being arrested for similar incidents.
This was Villamizar’s sixth offense for retail theft.
Villamizar faces a charge of retail theft.
Villamizar also faces charges for an incident on March 3, when according to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Gaetano, ShopRite contacted PSP Fern Ridge in regards to Villamizar, who stole multiple items on multiple different dates.
Villamizar was seen putting multiple items into his coat jacket, not paying for the items, and leaving the store.
The items included Lumify eye drops worth about $22, Derangler hairbrush worth about $13, and Magic Root Touch Up worth about $12, for a total of about $46.
Villamizar admitted to taking grocery items on multiple occasions and being arrested for similar incidents.
Villamizar also faces a charge of retail theft in this case.
Villamizar is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $10,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 14 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
