Kunkletown man, 34, faces charges after domestic dispute

A Kunkletown man has been charged with threatening to hurt his girlfriend and harm himself during a dispute.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by state Trooper Mark Bower of the Lehighton barracks in the case against William Wenzel:

At 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28, Bower was dispatched to a home in the 8000 block of Little John Drive, for the report of a domestic dispute involving a man and a woman.

While on scene, Bower made contact with the victim, who said that her boyfriend, Wenzel, 34, was threatening to harm himself all day.

The victim called 911 when Wenzel was outside and kicked the back door in, and related she attempted to stop Wenzel from coming through the door when she was cut by the knife Wenzel possessed in his right hand.

After Wenzel entered the residence, Wenzel held the knife to his own throat and related “Tell me I won’t do it,” then related “better yet, tell me I won’t do it to you.”

Wenzel then fled the residence on foot when he found out police were responding.

At this point, Bower started canvassing the area. A short time later, Wenzel was heard yelling in the woods at the police.

Bower then observed Wenzel running through a wooded lot, at which time he gave Wenzel multiple verbal commands identifying himself and telling him to stop and show him his hands.

Wenzel refused the commands and continued running, at which time Bower pursued Wenzel on foot and gave verbal commands threatening to release the K9, at which point Wenzel gave up for a brief second.

Wenzel then realized there was not a K9 present and made a move to flee again. After gaining compliance of Wenzel, a search of him yielded a butterfly knife that was described by the victim.

Wenzel faces charges of terrorist threats, recklessly endangering another person, and resisting arrest/other law enforcement, simple assault, and flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment, and harassment - subject other to physical contact.

Wenzel is incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison, with bail denied, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
