State police say holiday enforcement starts Saturday

State police at Bethlehem will have holiday enforcement from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 to 11:59 p.m. Dec. 25, and then again from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 30 and to 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1, according to a news release from police.

Police said the safety initiative will target aggressive drivers who operate their vehicles in a dangerous way to members of the public, which includes speeding, seat belt violations and child seat belt infractions. Troopers will also be concentrating their efforts on distractedg drivers.

In addition, troopers will focus on apprehending motorists who operate their vehicles under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

During the Christmas enforcement period last year, troopers investigated 37 crashes and made 17 DUI arrests in Northampton and Bucks counties. During the New Year’s enforcement period, they investigated 33 crashes and made 30 DUI arrests.
