A dynamite blast at the Arms Coal Co. strippings on the South Mountain shortly after 10 a.m. today rocked the entire South Ward and sent a shower of rocks over a wide area, causing damage to at least seven properties.

Rocks went through the roofs of at least two homes and through other porch roofs and did other damage.
