A tentative agreement has been reached between Jim Thorpe School District and Teamsters Local 773.
Members of the school board voted 7-1 in favor of accepting the tentative agreement, which covers custodial personnel and some of the district's cafeteria staff.Board member Gerald Strubinger cast the sole "no" vote; while board President Dennis McGinley abstained from the vote because of his son's employment with the district.Details about the agreement were not available, but the board will vote on the final contract at its April 13 meeting. The contract between the district and select personnel expired on June 30 and negotiations have taken place since then.In August, the school district rejected an agreement with Teamsters because "it wasn't where we felt it should be," Superintendent Brian Gasper said previously. In other matters, Thomas Lesisko, principal of Jim Thorpe Area High School, reported that at 9 a.m., March 21, at the high school, the national History Day competition will take place. The competition hosts approximately 300 competitors from around the region, competing in various historical items like reenactments, displays, documentaries, websites and more. The board also voted to make June 9 a snow make up day for the district. It will be a full day.
