A Carbon County man admitted in the county court on Thursday to driving under suspension-DUI related, then fleeing the scene on foot after he was stopped.
He entered a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Brandon Benjamin Leslie, 27, of Nesquehoning, also pleaded to one count of escape.Leslie was arrested on March 6 when Lehighton police made a traffic stop at Summit Avenue and Ridge Alley. Police ran a check and found Leslie was under suspension and also had an active warrant for his arrest out of Northampton County.As the arresting officer was returning to Leslie's vehicle, he bolted on foot. A chase ensued through various yards in the neighborhood before police were able to apprehend him.Leslie admitted to having a drug issue and mental health problems. He is currently in the Northampton County prison serving a term 180 days to five years for driving under the influence.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 60 days in jail and a fine of $500 on the suspension count with the term running consecutive to the Northampton County sentence. On the escape charge he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the other charges. He must also get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.
