A Schuylkill Township man being sought by state police was found dead Friday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, state police confirmed early today.

The body of Joseph D. Hartranft, 54, of 614 Old Route 209, Newkirk, was found not far from his home at about 8:30 p.m.State police at Frackville went to the trailer Hartranft was living in at about 4 p.m. Tuesday to serve him an eviction notice. He fled from his home into the woods, carrying a long gun.Police at about 7:30 p.m. obtained a felony arrest warrant for Hartranft on firearms act violations because he is prohibited from owning guns.
