Events are planned for area state parks

Three events for two area state parks in Schuylkill County have been schedule.

On Saturday, join naturalist Robin Tracey from Tuscarora State Park for a hike at Swatara State Park. The trail is 8 miles long and moderate. The trail runs parallel to Swatara Creek and a fossil bed. The trail will have participants hiking down to Bordner cabin and crossing the new bridge across Swatara Creek.Meet in the parking lot on Swopes Valley Road, just off Route 443, in Suedberg at 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch and water. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Contact Tracey at 570-467-2506 for more information. Shine only.Also on Saturday the Schuylkill County Trout Unlimited will be holding a fish identification program at 6 p.m. The members will be on hand to teach people how to identify native Pennsylvania fishes. Some door prizes will be given out.The program will be held in the Locust Lake State Park amphitheater. This program will be held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the Locust Lake program shelter located near the camp store.The third event is scheduled for Aug. 13. Join the naturalist from Tuscarora State Park for a hike to Peddler's Grave and the Greeny in Shenandoah Heights. The grave is the site of the first recorded murder in Schuylkill County.Participants will meet at the miners memorial in Shenandoah at 10:30 a.m. and carpool to the site. The hike is moderate and 5 miles long.Bring a lunch. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times and get along with other pets and people. Shine only.
