A Georgia man was placed in jail hours after he broke into a Schuylkill County home Wednesday morning and assaulted his mother-in-law and a family friend.

State police at Frackville were dispatched to 83 Trenton, Delano Township, at 12:34 a.m. for a report of Tyler Jonathan Smith, 29, of Milledgeville, Georgia, breaking into the residence and assaulting his 58-year-old mother-in-law and a family friend, a 39-year-old male.Both the mother-in-law and family friend have Mahanoy City addresses.Smith arrived intoxicated and broke through the locked front door by crashing his shoulder through it.Upon entry, police said Smith ran after the family friend in an effort to attack him.Smith's mother-in-law tried to break it up and Smith grabbed her and hurled her onto the floor, causing a laceration and bleeding to her right forearm.Smith was arraigned on charges of burglary, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief by on-call District Judge Christina Hale, who set bail at $10,000 straight cash.Smith was unable to post bail.
