Slatington, Northern Lehigh to hold National Night Out

Slatington Police Chief Greg Winokur told borough council that the Slatington Police Department, in conjunction with the Walnutport Police Department and the Northern Lehigh School District, will hold their first “National Night Out” from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Northern Lehigh High School.

Police, fire and EMS vehicles will be on display. There will be a dunk tank, face painting, music, and raffles. Prizes include passes to Sesame Place Amusement Park and day passes to the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool.

“This is year one, and we are hoping to make this an annual event,” Winokur said.

Winokur also gave his department report for June compared to last June. Total reports were 235 this year, 245 last year. Criminal arrests were eight this year, down one from a year ago. Traffic citations were 22 this year compared to 27 a year ago. Parking tickets were 23 compared to 29 last year.

“I can only equate that to people being away on vacation, the volumes being overall less,” Winokur said.
