A new club is coming to the Tamaqua Area Middle School.
School district directors, during Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting, approved the formation of the Aevidum club and appointed Kelly Klimowitch and Denise Drum as club co-advisers.
While the board didn’t discuss the club, Aevidum clubs are active in schools across the nation.
The first one, according to a website for Aevidum, was established in a Lancaster County school after students lost a fellow classmate to suicide.
“Aevidum shatters the silence that surrounds depression, suicide, and other issues facing youth. We strive to create healthy communities where everyone feels accepted, appreciated, acknowledged, and cared for in schools,” according to the site, www.aevidum.com.
In keeping with club action, the board appointed Thorn Devlin, Tamaqua, as Ski Club adviser at a stipend of $595.
In other business, the directors hired Michael Ouly, Tamaqua, as a health and physical education teacher at a salary of $50,663.
They also appointed Ryan Frederickson, Tamaqua, and Nate MacDonald, as volunteer baseball coaches.
Sarah McCabe, Brockton, was approved as a substitute custodian at a rate of $11.04 per hour, contingent upon submission of the necessary documentation.
Directors added Kaelyn Boran-Smith and Rebecca Daukaus as substitute teachers.
The board accepted the retirement of Terri Klingaman, confidential record keeper, which will be effective on Sept. 15.
In addition, directors approved the expulsion of two high school students for one calendar year each for violations of the discipline code.
