Carbon County courts - ARD

Six first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, then their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.

All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.

Jon Harrison Ahner, 20, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of simple assault for an incident on May 25 that was filed by Franklin Township police. The incident occurred along Red Hill Road and involved a relative as the victim.

He was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, and have no contact with the victim.

Nicholas B. Amy, 44, of Wind Gap, was placed on a driving under the influence charge filed on May 30, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Bank Street in Bowmanstown. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.

He was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 30 days.

Tara Gowrie, 48, of Jim Thorpe, was placed for two years on a charge of unauthorized use of a credit card filed by Weatherly police. She was an employee at Weatherwood nursing facility when police said she took the debit card of a patient at the facility and used it without her permission.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 100 hours of community service, and make restitution of $1,834.60, which was paid at the ARD hearing.

Precious Brianna Ostiguin, 22, of Philadelphia, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana filed by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Javon Benjamin Woods, 18, of Philadelphia, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana filed by state police at Lehighton on June 26 following a traffic stop.

He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Sandra Kay Jarosz, 53, of Lansford, was placed for a year on a DUI of controlled substance charge filed by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Frederick Grove Road in Mahoning Township.

She was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 60 days.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of more than $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
