Carbon County Courts - guilty pleas
A total of five defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:
Greg Steinmetz, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. In exchange for the plea charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and summary offenses of harassment, public drunkenness and criminal trespass were dropped.
Steinmetz was arrested on June 29 by state police at Lehighton, for incidents along Forest Street in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said it was the result of a domestic situation.
Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and attend and successfully complete a anger management course.
Brandon F. Samler, 32, of Beaver Meadows, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on April 22, 2021, along Pine Street in Beaver Meadows. In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon - a machete, were dropped.
State police at Hazleton responded to a report of a male causing a disturbance.
Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, and render 50 hours of community service.
Adrian Sparacino, 18, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested on Jan. 24 by Weatherly police for stealing the earbuds of a male along a borough street.
Sparacino is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.
Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 25 hours of community service and to have no contact with the victim. The earbuds were recovered.
Luis Alejandro Vasquez, 25, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, as a summary offense. The charge was added to the original complaint. In exchange for the plea charges of possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana were dropped.
He was arrested on Oct. 4, 2017, by state police at Fern Ridge following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. His plea was done via Zoom from his home in North Carolina.
Matika imposed a fine of $150 and costs.
Tristian Issac Arroyo-Pinero, 22, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of theft.
He was arrested on May 20, 2018, by Lansford police for the theft of a BMX bicycle from a residence along Bertsch Street.
Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service and supply a DNA sample.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
