ADA parking passes and school bus drop-off locations were of great concern Wednesday night to Lansford’s Borough Council.
A permit request for a handicap parking sign by former Mayor Michele Bartek was denied in a vote of 4-2 without official comment.
Bartek said that the vote was “based on bias” and said that she will seek legal counsel.
New ordinances for handicap parking are currently under consideration by the council.
School bus stops are also a concern as parents are blocking the street outside the borough hall and children are climbing all over the ramp.
Concerns about the safety of the children and the clogged traffic resulted in a discussion about possibly moving the bus stop down to the corner of Walnut and Ridge streets.
Bartek suggested replacing the crossing guard that retired since that person is an extension of the police department.
Bartek said, “You can’t keep moving kids because they are inconvenient.”
Bruce Markovich said, “The borough will sit down with the mayor and police department to discuss school bus stops.”
Police Officer Shawn Nunemacher was unanimously approved to serve as Officer in Charge now that the Police Chief Jack Soberick has retired.
According to Mayor Hugh Vrablic, Nunemacher will serve in this capacity during the search for a new chief.
