The Palmerton Area Public Library has a variety of activities planned, including getting ready for college to the annual art show and luncheon.

The College Planning Strategies Workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 18.The workshop will provide an overview of how academics, admissions and financial strategies can work together to help save families money on college. The show and luncheon is sponsored by the Friends of the Palmerton Area Library.Anyone interested in entering art work in the show should bring the items to the library by noon Jan. 22. These include Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest, Pronunciator, NewsBank, Brainfuse, eBooks and Zinio (online magazines).Children's activities• Homework Helpers for grades 1-8 - Volunteer tutors help children with their homework and other assignments from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. The service is free, but parents must register each child.• Paws of Hope - Kids read to dogs from 11 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month. The activity is free but parents must preregister for a time slot by calling the library at 610-826-3424.• Preschool Story Hour - Children are invited to attend every Friday during the school year. The program is held at 10:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public.Classes• Rachel's Music Together - Music and movement classes for children from birth through age 5, and the adults who love them. Call 570-778-6128 to register.• New computer classes will be starting in the spring. These classes include beginner, Office, Excel and social media. Class size is limited, so sign up now for the waiting list. Free and open to anyone of all skill levels interested in knitting and crocheting.• Third Monday Book Club - Meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Monday of the month. Club members discuss a different book each month. New members are always welcome. The Jan. 18 book is "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr.• The Sew What Quilt Guild - Meets at 7 p.m. in the library on the second Thursday of the month.
