Penn Forest supervisors address problems with park
Penn Forest Chairman Warren Reiner pointed out Monday at the supervisors meeting that the new park on Route 903 has a few problems. The most significant is that retention Basin C does not drain.
The township engineer from Barry Isett Associates spoke with Chris Storm from the conservation district who suggested that the basin should be drained and a test pit be dug to determine the problem.Reiner made it clear that the township would not be doing the work."The contractor is responsible," Reiner said. "If we do the test, there will always be some question as to whether or not we did it correctly. The contractor needs to come back in here and fix it."Reiner said pretty much the same thing regarding some low spots that have developed in the playground area.In other park news, BIA has proposed a redesign of the playing field elevations that will result in a significant decrease in the amount of soil that would be removed from the park.The original design called for 23,000 cubic yards of cut to be removed. The new design raises the fields 1 to 3 feet and would decrease the amount soil being removed to about 275 cubic yards.According to BIA, this would be a tremendous savings for the next phase of the park.The park will close for the winter on Oct. 30.Other newsFazio made a motion to hire Lisa Woodring to the position of treasurer at a rate of $15.30 per hour. Woodring's hiring was approved and a start date of Oct. 20 was set.The board also agreed to auction off old equipment and unused items. Reiner volunteered his services as auctioneer. A date for the auction was not set.Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Companies 1 and 2 received the Fire Relief Association funds for the year in the amount of $38,454 each.The township agreed to hire the accounting firm of Weslow and Carney to reconcile the Sanitation Fund. It also agreed to hire Millennium Computer Services of Albrightsville to maintain the township's computers.The township will be going out for bid for supplemental snow removal and will be hiring part-time snow removal employees at $15 per hour.The township will be holding its budget workshops on Oct. 21 and 28 at 10 a.m. and Nov. 5 and 12 at 6 p.m.
