Meal costs at the Carbon County Correctional Facility will likely double for a new three-year contract.
On Thursday, the board of commissioners opened bids via PennBid for food service at the prison.
Last month, the county received notice from Trinity Services Group of Oldsmar, Florida, that it would terminate the agreement at the end of its contract on June 1.
But Trinity was also one of two companies that bid on the new contract, submitting the lowest of the two bids.
The total cost for the three years was $2,103,846.50 by Trinity and $2,167,964.22 by Aramark Correctional Services LLC of Philadelphia.
The quotes were based on a total of 261,705 meals delivered for each year.
Broken down, the Trinity bid equates to $2.55 per meal the first year; $2.68 per meal the second year; and $2.81 per meal the third year.
Aramark’s per meal cost would be $2.63 the first year; $2.76 the second year; and $2.90 the third year.
The county then voted to table the bids so they could be reviewed before a final decision is made.
Trinity Service has held the food service contract at the correctional facility since August 2013 after the county chose to outsource the kitchen service instead of hosting it in-house.
In 2019, Trinity bid $1,037,238.44 for the current contract.
