Schuylkill County court
Malik Zver, 21, of Tamaqua, will spend time in jail for assaulting the borough’s police chief, breaking his nose, on March 18, 2021.
A Schuylkill County jury on Feb. 3 found Zver guilty of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.
Judge Jacqueline L. Russell sentenced Zver to three to 12 months in jail, followed by two years on probation on the assault charge, and 30 days to 60 days on the conduct charge, to be served at the same time.
He was given credit for 76 days already served.
He was also ordered to pay court costs and fees, and a $50 a month supervision fee while on probation.
Russell also ordered Zver to undergo drug and alcohol, mental health, and anger management evaluations and abide by any recommendations.
Police were called to house in the 300 block of West Broad Street for a report of a man who was out of control.
Upon entry, police saw that Zver appeared to be under the influence of something. He knocked on a door and screamed at a woman when she opened it.
Zver was placed in a police car and taken to a holding cell. Police say he threw an elbow at Hobbs, striking him in the face and breaking his nose after Hobbs told him to take off his shoes and enter the cell.
Zver was wrestled to the ground, handcuffed and put in the cell.
Mandi S. Gossman, 40, of Tamaqua, pleaded guilty to simple assault and was sentenced to three to 23 months in the county jail, pay court costs and fees, and restitution of $150 to the victim and $2,042.44 to Capital Blue Cross.
She was charged by Trooper Andrew J. Hubiak of the Schuylkill Haven barracks after an incident on Aug. 8, 2021.
Judge Charles J. Miller allowed charges of harassment and disorderly conduct to be dropped.
