Palmerton Democrats to learn about Carbon COG
The Palmerton Area Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Shamrock Golf Club (formerly Blue Ridge Country Club), 2230 Fireline Road, Palmerton.
Palmerton Borough Councilman Kris Hoffner will introduce the Club to the Carbon County Council of Governments, which is the new county organization he now chairs.Preparations for the upcoming general election on Nov. 3, will also be high on the agenda."The purpose of CCCOG is for municipalities to come together to share ideas and resources to benefit each municipality," said Hoffner.Club President Sarina Berlow said, "Members of our club want to understand the advantages for Palmerton and other Carbon County communities to participate in CCCOG and possibly brainstorm appropriate projects and other suggestions for this new entity to explore."A new option for club members this year is to come early at 5:30 p.m. for dinner at the Blue Shamrock.To help streamline the process, attendees planning to come for dinner are asked please contact reservations coordinator Sue Olivia at
solivia@ptd.net, or 610-826-7975."Food insecurity is still a problem in our area," club Vice President Sandi Peters said."Therefore, our Democratic Club will continue to support the Food Bank run by the Community Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches."We would appreciate it if those attending each meeting would remember to bring canned goods to donate for those in need."The area covered by the club is the same as the Palmerton Area School District, and includes Palmerton, Bowmanstown, Towamensing Township and Lower Towamensing Township.Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September to December and March through May at 7 p.m. at the Blue Shamrock Golf Club.The location for January and February will be announced.
