Carbon woman enters guilty pleas in five pending cases
A Carbon County woman entered guilty pleas in five pending criminal cases on Monday in Carbon County court.
Amanda L. Schleicher, 37, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of retail theft.
She entered the pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
The first PWID charge stemmed from an incident on March 7, 2017, filed by Mahoning Township police. Police made a vehicle stop along Jamestown Street in which the defendant was the driver. Various drug items, heroin and cocaine were found in the vehicle. The second PWID occurred on March 7, 2018, filed by Lehighton police following a vehicle stop in which drugs were found. The police report also indicated she had made a drug sale prior to the stop.
The two possession counts occurred on June 9, 2020, filed by Summit Hill police. Police responded to a residence along West Hazard Street for a 911 hangup call. Schleicher was found in an upstairs bathroom, lying on the floor with drugs near her, including methamphetamine. The second occurred on Nov. 10, 2017, filed by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Route 248, Heroin and various drugs and related items were found in the vehicle.
The retail theft occurred on July 26, 2018, at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township where she stole items valued at $26.85.
In exchange for the pleas, the district attorney’s office dropped several counts of driving under the influence, possession charges and endangering the welfare of a child. The cases have a long history in the court system. One case has 24 continuances, another 17, a third 12 and a fourth 10.
Also part of the plea bargain is that any sentence imposed be served in the county prison.
She was also scheduled to be sentenced Monday in a sixth case but it was deferred, as was sentencing on the other cases.
