Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported on two crashes investigated by troopers along the northeast extension of the turnpike.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:20 a.m. on Oct. 18 in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. Troopers said Kelly L. Silfies, 49, of Jim Thorpe, driving a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan, was getting onto the northbound ramp at the Lehigh Valley interchange and tried to pass a 2022 Mack truck driven by Leonardo M. Melendez, 34, of Allentown. Her vehicle hit the front driver side wheel of the truck.

No one was injured. The Tuguan sustained heavy damage and had to be towed. Silfies was cited for careless driving.

• The second crash occurred at 4:35 p.m. on Oct. 13 also in South Whitehall Township.

Troopers said Samuel P. Reibman, 29, of Emmaus, driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma truck, was northbound exiting at the Lehigh Valley interchange. Joshua M. Schildt, 32, of Breinigsville, Lehigh County, driving a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, was behind Reibman while Charla R. Bensinger, 33, of New Ringgold, driving a 2015 Ford Flex, was behind Bensinger.

Reibman saw traffic stopping ahead of him and began to brake and swerved to avoid the traffic by turning onto the right shoulder and coming to a stop. Schildt saw vehicles in front of him stopping and began braking and swerved onto the right shoulder. Bensinger braked but was unable to stop in time. The front of her car hit the rear of Schildt’s vehicle, pushing it into the rear of Reibman’s vehicle.

No one was injured.
