A Carbon County man was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday after pleading guilty to a fleeing or attempting to elude police charge, rated as a felony 3.
Darrin Aenee Griffin, 41, of Palmerton, was charged for an incident on May 22, 2020, by state police at Lehighton. Troopers responded to a residence along Mill Road for a domestic dispute. On scene officers were told that Griffin was at the residence despite the fact the female victim had an active protection from abuse order against him.
Griffin fled the scene prior to the arrival of troopers. Troopers spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop him but Griffin fled. The police report indicated speeds reached 100 mph and that the roads were wet and there was fog in the area.
Griffin has been an inmate in the county prison since his arrest.
Nanovic sentenced him to serve 12 to 36 months in a state correctional institution, and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, supply a DNA sample, pay a fine of $1,000 and pay court costs of over $1,000.
He was given credit for 515 days already spent in prison on the charge. Despite having served his minimum, he will be transferred to a state facility. Nanovic noted once a state sentence is imposed, the local court loses jurisdiction and any parole action must be done by the state.
