Schuylkill County court

A Minersville man pleaded guilty to possessing drug paraphernalia in Tamaqua in 2019 and was sentenced to 12 months probation.

Common Pleas Judge Charles Miller on Sept. 23 sentenced Victor Pranxcavage 58, to 12 months probation. Tamaqua Police say he had a hypodermic needle in his right front pants pocket along with four needles in a hoodie pocket when they got him out of a vehicle after observing it at the Turkey Hill on East Broad Street Nov. 7, 2019.

A Tamaqua man pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia recently.

Common Pleas Judge Charles Miller Sept. 27 sentenced Jeremiah Sanders, 33, to 18 months probation on the charges, 12 months for the first offense and six months consecutive to the first charge for an incident Feb. 5.

Tamaqua Police responded to the Tamaqua Car Wash for a theft.

Police found Sanders, who said he was “trash diving and just found a couple of cents.” Sanders granted police permission to search his backpack, where they found a hypodermic needle and a small orange pack with a cross on it, charging documents show. He was arrested. He admitted to police heroin was inside the backpack, police said.

After opening the orange pack, police found “a small rope, two plungers from hypodermic needles, one cotton swab, a contact case containing small pieces of a cotton ball, a bullet” and two baggies, documents show. Each of the baggies contained five paper packings with a “white powdery substance inside.”

A Tamaqua woman had her parole revoked and was ordered to attend Schuylkill County Drug Treatment Court.

Common Pleas Judge James P. Goodman issued the order Sept. 16 for Carina Leach, 24.

Leach is to begin serving her time for inpatient treatment at Pyramid Lehigh Valley. She pleaded guilty June 18, 2020, to endangering the welfare of children and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

At that time, Judge Cyrus P. Dolbin sentenced her to 3 months to 23 months on the endangering welfare of children charge and 12 months probation on the drug charge.

Schuylkill Haven Police Officer David George charged her with the offenses for an incident Aug. 5, 2019, in the borough.

Police responded to the Fast Fill Gas station along Route 61 for a woman driving a car to the site and almost hitting a gas pump.

The woman identified as Leach went into the business and into the bathroom and didn’t come out. Police heard a baby cry but didn’t hear any other sounds.

They entered the bathroom and found Leach “laying on the bathroom floor unconscious with a syringe in her hand and a leather strap by her left arm,” charging documents show. Narcan was administered and Leach was taken to the hospital when EMS arrived.

Police found out Leach was seen in the borough earlier arguing outside a car with a man, who later left. Leach, who had the child with her, appeared to be under the influence of something, so a woman who lives nearby took the child for its safety, police said. Leach didn’t resist. She later returned for the child.

A Summit Hill man was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty recently to assaulting a prisoner in the Schuylkill County Prison.

Philip Carnese, 36, entered the guilty plea Sept. 13 in front of President Judge William E. Baldwin. He was sentenced to a minimum of 8 months to a maximum of 36 months with credit for 48 days served, court records show.

The District Attorney’s office withdrew charged of conspiracy and simple assault. He is serving time in State Correctional Institution Smithfield, Huntingdon County.

Pottsville Police say Carnese and another inmate attacked someone unprovoked Aug. 17, 2020. Carnese punched the man in the head and body, and he fell to the ground during the assault.

The inmate was taken to a hospital as a result.
