The normal stillness of Packer Hill in Jim Thorpe was broken Saturday as the historic Harry E. Packer Mansion and its effects were exposed to a public sale.

The mansion, however, was not sold when one of its owners, Bradley Oliver, and his attorney, rejected the high bid of $95,000 for the 15-room property adjacent to the Asa Packer Mansion.

Articles from the home that did sell included a Rosewood parlor suite that was purchased for $17,000, and a silver-plated Indian on horseback statuette, which brought a bid of $11,000.

The articles offered for sale were not original to the famed house as the original ones were disposed of during an auction conducted for a former owner of the property some years ago.
