Luzerne County woman gets probation on drug-dealing charge

A Luzerne County woman was spared a prison term on Tuesday after her application for placement in the house arrest program was approved by Carbon County court.

Briana Nicole Gipson, 25, of West Hazleton, was placed in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program for 36 months by Judge Joseph J. Matika. She must wear an electronic monitoring device for the first six months.

She previously pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - heroin.

She was arrested on May 3, 2019, by Weatherly police in the area of 200 Hudsondale Street. Police responded to a residence for a reported overdose victim and found Gipson and illegal substances.

At the time of her plea she was told she faced a prison term of three to 12 months but admittance to the house arrest program spared her the jail time.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 100 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation. Her house arrest will be supervised by the Luzerne County probation office.
