Complaints abound over borough’s trash hauler
Issues with its trash hauler continue to abound in Bowmanstown.
Resident Paul Lupcho asked borough council on Tuesday why it’s wasting taxpayers’ time when Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling continues to place the recycling in with the trash and doesn’t separate them.
Council President William Ravert added that every week the borough gets complaints, and urged those who are dissatisfied to contact Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling and relay the complaints to them.
“It happens on my street also, and I’m tired of saying something (to them),” Ravert said. “Their contract does come up next year; we signed a five-year contract.”
Later in the meeting, wastewater treatment plant operator Chris Bixler said damage was done to Ridge Street caused by a garbage truck.
“The garbage crew admitted to doing it,” Bixler said.
No determination has been made in regards to repairing Ridge Street.
This isn’t the first time the borough’s trash hauler has been called into question.
In May, Councilman Rob Moyer said he fielded complaints from three different residents in three different parts of the borough.
The complaints then were that the trash hauler was placing the recycling in with the trash and not separating them.
Council noted that residents should contact the borough office when they see this.
The borough’s contract with Tamaqua Transfer runs through October 2022.
Street plan
Also on Tuesday, Lupcho inquired about council’s street plan.
Councilwoman Pam Leiby provided Lupcho with an outline.
Leiby said tar and chip would occur on Ore Street; Sander Street from Mill to Oak; Ridge Street; and Lime Street from White to Hamilton.
They will be using millings on Pine Street to Green Street, and overlay on Lime Street to Sander Street; Mill to Ore; Stoney Hill from White to Ore Street; and Blose from Ore to Franklin Street.
Additionally, they will seal Hamilton Street from Mill to Fireline Road.
