Towamensing to get pricing for signs at new recycling center

Towamensing Township continues to make strides on its new recycling center.

Supervisors agreed on Thursday to obtain some prices for signs.

Board Chairman Guy Seifert explained the lengths the township has gone to.

“The township has invested money,” Seifert said. “We’re trying to streamline our recycling process.”

Seifert said the township modified its old salt shed and turned it into a recycling facility.

On top of that, he said the township also added fences and gates to control the illegal dumping.

“We have an ordinance in place, and we will issue (citations),” he said.

The township has its current recycling station, along with a new station that is being constructed behind the building.

Kleintop previously said the township’s new recycling center could be open by this month, as its two compactors were due to arrive last month.

He previously said that once complete, the facility will be locked up and the recycling center will be on the outside of the facility.

Kleintop said after April’s meeting that people have taken advantage of the township’s good nature and dump off all kinds of things that are not recycling.

He added at that time those who attempt to dump waste at both the current recycling station and the new one may want to reconsider.

Kleintop said at that time the township plans to police it with a brand-new camera system that will be able to see details of the car, license plate and individual.
