Slatington Borough Council meetings have been fraught with disagreements, and Monday's meeting proved to be no different.
Slatington resident Kris Burke tried to take council to task over offensive language used during recent committee and board meetings. She said that "when residents open with a question for council they get called (expletive), or they come to a committee meeting and are told not to speak there; they are told to shut up."Burke then questioned the behavior of the board."What is happening? When did you shut down being a part of the public? You are not exempt from bad behavior," she said, then turning her questions to council President Gwyneth Jones. "Do you see an issue with your actions, Gwen?""I don't know. Do you see an issue with yours?" Jones said."Duane (Dellecker) gave those people an appointment to have a private meeting with the zoning officer," Councilman Jon Rinker said. "What's out of line is when someone comes to a meeting and points fingers and calls someone else a criminal."Slatington solicitor Ed Healy addressed Burke, saying, "You're taking advantage of the issues. The member of the public you are speaking of was way out of line."Councilman David Schnaars told Burke her time was up and called to end the discussion.Rinker added one last comment before moving on, "The public has a right to know those people who asked to be heard were not at the right meeting."
