Weissport Council

Weissport Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its recent meeting:

• The new Weissport Event Committee will hold a community yard sale on July 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the borough park. The rental is $10 for a 10-by-10-foot space.

Contact Jess Cobb at 201-214-9086 or email jjcobb417@gmail.com to reserve spaces. Proceeds will be used by the Event Committee projects such as the Halloween Parade and the Christmas Parade.

• Councilman Tom Ketchledge and council President Arland Moyer asked the council to look into renting a drivable lift to trim some of the dead branches from trees in the borough park.

“It would be much cheaper than paying the $18,000 to have an outside company come in to do the work,” Ketchledge said.

• Borough Secretary Jennifer Ketchledge checked on pricing for an 80-85 foot Articulating Cat, which could be rented for $977 per day or $1,958 for a week, plus transportation costs and other fees from United Rentals in Allentown. The council will look at that and other possibilities before deciding on which unit to rent.

• Moyer will also contact Duane Masenheimer regarding spraying the park for insects before events start in the park.

• Council members voted to pay Thomas Ketchledge, interim zoning officer, a fee of 25% of the value of permits he issues.

• Weissport Chief of Police Matthew Williams, said his department was getting busier now that the weather is warmer and people are moving about more. His department has been an increased number of warnings and local citations.

“We want your compliance, not your money,” Williams said, indicating that he would be willing to waive fines if the recipients make the effort to comply with local laws.

• The monthly report from the Weissport Borough Police Department, from May 17 to June 21, shows a variety of activities, including calls for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS, possession of marijuana, criminal mischief, fight in progress, serving warrants, theft, lost property, motor vehicle accidents, Quality of Life citations, prisoner transport, court attendance, as well as traffic violations. The Quality of Life citations have the largest number, with six events. Williams also stated he has several additional citations ready to file.
