NL recognizes outgoing senior student rep.

A student who spent the past two years sitting in on Northern Lehigh School Board meetings has been given quite the send-off.

Senior Student Representative to the Board Aidan Williams was recognized for his contributions at last Monday’s school board meeting.

But before that, Aidan took time to reflect on his final activities as a student in the district, including the graduation ceremony held at Bulldog Community Stadium.

“A great event, really emotional, I know for me, and I know a lot of people just going through it all,” Aidan said. “I was super nervous because I had to give a speech, made it through it somehow.”

Aidan also thanked “everyone who made graduation possible, and as normal as possible, too. Thank you making it an event I will truly remember for the rest of my life.”

As this was his last board meeting, Aidan took a moment to “thank all of you for putting up with me for the past two years and giving me this opportunity; it’s been nothing but a pleasure to work with all of you.”

Aidan acknowledged he will be pursuing a career in education.

“So this has been a great experience; because of that, I know I’ll be able to take some of the things I learned and (saw) from all of you and apply that to my future careers in life,” he said.

“So I’m eternally grateful for being given this opportunity; it means so much for all of you to let me have this chance.”

School board President Gary Fedorcha told Aidan he was a tremendous asset to the board.

“Aidan, you did an excellent job this year,” Fedorcha said. “I also want to tell you, you did an excellent job giving your speech at graduation on behalf of student council.”

Superintendent Matthew J. Link also recognized Aidan, who he said “has done really a wonderful and amazing job reporting on all sorts of activities, be it sports or academics or the prom or the theater achievements, and he does so really on a professional journalist type level.”

Aidan was active in the Slate Newspaper, boys’ soccer team, National Honor Society, and Student Council and was Student Council President.

“And he truly did knock it out of the stadium with his speech Saturday morning,” he said. “Aidan, I know you were nervous, you couldn’t tell, you did a phenomenal job; I’m sure your parents were just so extremely proud of you.”

The board wished Aidan much success in his future endeavors as he furthers his education, as he’s been accepted into the Honors Program at West Chester University, where he will major in history, with a minor in secondary education.

On behalf of the board of education and the school district, Link said they presented Aidan with a clock as a token of their appreciation for his service to the district.
