2021 primary: Wernett runs for Clerk of Courts in Carbon County
Sydney Wernett of Jim Thorpe has announced her candidacy for Clerk of Courts in Carbon County. She is seeking the Republican nomination in the May 18 primary.
Wernett was born and raised in Jim Thorpe by her parents, Kevin and Catherine Wernett. She obtained her a degree in criminal justice from Lehigh Carbon Community College.
“I am running for clerk of courts, because I believe that my experience, education and youth would be beneficial in serving the people of Carbon County as Clerk of Courts. I not only understand the court system through my associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, but I also have personal experience from working throughout the court system. My youth offers a fresh perspective that could assist in positioning Clerk of Courts where it needs to be today. I have strived to build my background for this opportunity.”
Since the fall of 2018, Wernett has been a court employee of Carbon County. Currently, Wernett is working in the Prothonotary’s Office as PFA clerk/coordinator. She manages and oversees all Protection from Abuse petitions that are filed, and cross-trained on other duties within that office.
“In my current position, I am responsible for the filing and documentation of PFA petitions and arranging with a judge’s secretary for the individual filing to see a judge for their ex parte hearing.”
“Clerk of Courts is the record keeper of much more than just criminal cases filed by law enforcement and collector of court costs. This office maintains and oversees cases that are confidential, that are not criminal related. That is just the base of what this office does. If elected as Clerk of Courts, I am confident in the understanding I have obtained, through my professional experiences, of the intricacies and duties of being elected as the Clerk of Courts.
“I believe that an elected official is more than just a face in public and in front of the camera. An elected official represents the people of Carbon County. If elected, I look forward to having the opportunity to serve the constituents of our county daily with dedication, honesty and commitment.”
