Heritage festival
The 31st annual Tamaqua Heritage Festival will be held this Sunday in Downtown Tamaqua. Festivities will be held from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., rain or shine.In addition to homemade crafts and foods, visitors will have the opportunity to visit a model railroad display, take horse-drawn trolley rides, watch a blacksmith at work, relive America's wartime history through re-enactors, tour the 1874 railroad station, enjoy a variety of live music, view classic cars and get a sneak peek at the newly renovated Tamaqua Historical Society Museum.TEPTOThe Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet Tuesday. The meeting will be held in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library, starting at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month during the 2015-16 school year.Andreas paradeThe annual Andreas Halloween Parade has been scheduled for Oct. 21, with a rain date of Oct. 22.The line of march will begin forming at 6:15 p.m. at the Andreas Sporting Club. The parade will begin at 7 p.m.The annual event is sponsored by the sporting club and the West Penn Lions/Lioness Clubs.For more information or to register, call Becky at 570-386-3045.Rescue squadThe Tamaqua Rescue Squad's annual fund drive is still underway. The squad is one of the last few independent rescue service providers in the state and depends on the annual drive to continue providing fee-free service.New members are also needed. Anyone interested in volunteering may stop by the station at 19 Pine St. any Thursday evening.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.Next week's activities include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir practice is at 6:30 p.m., property committee meets at 7 p.m., chancel choir meets at 7:30 p.m.St. Peter's UnionThis Sunday's 9 a.m. service in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville will include the dedication of Confirmands and a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, Daisies, Brownies, Junior, Cadet and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, newsletter deadline, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m.Calvary UMThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.The service will be followed by a carry-in luncheon, then a hike at Hawk Mountain.
