A Carbon County man pleaded guilty on Thursday in the county court to insurance fraud.
Brian Keith Moore, 37, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Moore admitted he made a false claim for damages to his vehicle to his insurance company.Jim Thorpe police responded on March 1 to a hit-and-run accident in the area of 624 Center St. A parked vehicle had been struck.The investigation led to Moore being the driver involved. Moore at first said he was not in the area at the time of the incident. He later reported to his insurance company that his vehicle had been damaged in a crash at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.Police reviewed video surveillance at a local bank and observed Moore's vehicle in the area on the day of the hit-and-run after he had told them he was not involved or in that area at the time of the crash.Nanovic placed him on probation for two years and ordered he pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in probation, and render 50 hours of community service.
