The Schuylkill County Young Democrats are hosting a protest Sunday to call for Schuylkill County Commissioner George Halcovage Jr. to resign.
The event will be at noon Sunday outside the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
Cat Mahon, chair of the group, posted Monday on Facebook:
“This is a problem (sexual harassment and the power dynamic). This is something that people should call out.”
Halcovage, a Republican, is being accused of sexual harassment by four female county employees. The women filed a civil suit in Middle District Court last week.
“He should have been called to resign from everybody in a position of power,” Mahon said, adding the allegations do not reflect well on the community.
Mahon said she does not know how many people might attend, but even if it is only her, it is worth it.
The goal is to bring awareness and hold people in power accountable for their actions, she said.
This week Hugh Reiley, Schuylkill County Democratic Committee Chairman, released a statement.
“The Schuylkill County Democratic Committee condemns all sexual assault and harassment, and fully support the victims. We are withholding any future comments on Commissioner Halcovage’s situation until there is a full and comprehensive investigation of the allegations against him.”
