Nesquehoning's sewage treatment plant went into operation at 2 p.m. today with the flip of a switch.

For residents and businesses in the downtown area of the borough, the service went unnoticed, with little to no fanfare. Operations started with the use of 27,000 gallons of seed sludge from the Lansford/Coaldale Joint Sewer Authority.Plant Manager Robert Watral explained the seed sludge was needed to "provide the bugs that are the working part of every sewage plant."Dave Digilio is the plant operator who threw the switch.
