Zion UCC seeks voices for its annual Christmas Cantata

Each year, Zion UCC, 225 Iron St., Lehighton hosts its ecumenical Christmas Cantata and welcomes voices from all church choirs, as well as other groups and people who don't participate in church choirs.

Brad Cressley, director of music at Zion UCC, is on a quest this year to have at least 100 voices participate in this year's cantata, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29.This year's cantata is titled "All is Well." The group's books were purchased by church member Barry Shupp in memory of Shirley Wentz. The orchestration was donated by the Daughters of Zion, Zion's very dedicated quilting group. With Michael W. Smith's well-known classic song "All is Well" as the centerpiece, the cantata provides the congregation with songs of hope and celebration for the season. This musical is from multiple Dove Award winners Dennis and Nan Allen and will feature soloists and congregation singalongs.Amid a sea of chaos and uncertainty in this world, Jesus is our source of true and lasting hope, joy and peace. This narrated musical will provide the choir and congregation with songs of hope and celebration for the season.People need not be experienced singers, but instead someone who likes to sing and be with a wonderful group of people and kick off the Christmas season to a full sanctuary. The cantata is accompanied by a full orchestra. Participants get together about once a week to prepare for the cantata and have a great time meeting new folks and singing some beautiful Christmas music.Because the music department knows everyone has busy schedules, rehearsal dates have been staggered for different nights of the week. Attendance is not mandatory at all of the rehearsals, so participants are asked not to decline from singing because they will miss some rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:• Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 8:30 p.m.• Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m.• Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m.• Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 8:30 p.m.• Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m.• Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m. (practice with orchestra)• Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m.• Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 8:30 p.m.• Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. (performance follows at 7:30 p.m.)Those interested in singing are encouraged to register online at
