Carbon elections office kept busy with steady flow nominating petitions
A steady flow of people filing petitions to get their names on the primary election ballots in Carbon County has kept the Carbon County Board of Elections busy this week.
Candidates get their names on the ballots for the respective positions they are seeking by filing nominating petitions at the elections office, which has been temporarily relocated due to construction work taking place on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe. The temporary office is located at 410 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, which is the site of the former Jim Thorpe Area School District Administration Building.
For additional information, the office can be reached at 570-325-4801.
The deadline for filing the petitions is March 9.
Only registered party members can participate in a political party’s primary election. For the May 18 primary election, this means voters who are unaffiliated, Independent or registered to “other” parties will receive a ballot for three proposed Pennsylvania constitutional amendments. Voters who are unaffiliated, Independent or registered to “other” parties will not see a roster of candidates.
The list of people who filed petitions seeking elective offices, as of midafternoon Thursday, includes:
