Two people are displaced after a house fire in West Penn Township.
The fire at 345 All Kings Drive was called into the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 1:44 p.m.by a nearby resident. A woman was home at the time of the fire and alerted by her neighbor.
West Penn Township fire chief Jeff Bradford said when firefighters arrived minutes later they saw flames from the roof. The fire was contained in about 45 minutes. Bradford did not have a damage estimate caused by the water or a hole cut in the roof. The cause is under investigation. The home did have working smoke alarms. He does not know if the homeowners have insurance.
Bradford said the winter conditions made arriving at the fire scene challenging.
“It was treacherous,” he said of the ice and light snow on the roads, adding the apparatus drove slower to avoid an accident, although he said response time was more than normal but only by a few minutes. In addition to the West Penn Township Fire Department, fire companies from Tamaqua, New Ringgold, New Tripoli, and Gemansville, Lehigh County responded. No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.
The scene was cleared at 3:30 p.m.
