Northern Lehigh School District plans to write a letter of support to advocate for a testing waiver from the federal government.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tania Stoker updated the school board on Monday of the district’s intentions.
Stoker said during the 2019-20 school year, the federal government issued both an accountability and a testing waiver due to the pandemic.
“To date, there has been neither issued for the 2021 school year, which is concerning to educators,” Stoker said. “Recently, several professional organizations educators have joined forces to request at least an accountability waiver so that test scores acquired during this school year do not negatively impact school districts as they may not be valid, reliable, equitable or fair.”
Stoker said the district will write a letter of support to state Sen. Pat Browne and state Rep. Zach Mako “to advocate for this waiver from the federal government.”
“So we just wanted to make everyone aware that we are looking to support that, and advocate for our students and our educators,” she said.
